Dark circles below the eyes are an extremely common problem.

Broadly speaking they have a few major causes -

- An underlying furrow that gets direct shadowing from the eyes and so looks dark.

- Poor blood supply with venous congestion which gives the circles a bluish tinge.

- Skin discolouration due to excessive melanin production, which give the circles a brownish tinge.
